Automation for Good

There are numerous advantages to automating operations. When analyzing cost savings, productivity, availability, reliability, and performance, automation software is an excellent choice. How can automation Futureproof an organization while nurturing a people-first culture. On the same time, an essential aspect in ensuring the success of an organizational automation-first approach is engaged people. Without it, automation is just a buzzword, and RPA is just another technology. How can people concentrate on value-adding activities that create higher knowledge and encourage the acquisition of new competencies as RPA takes repetitive and low-value tasks off their hands?

Launched in October 2022, the ”Automation for Good” report, designed by Social Innovation Solutions with support from UiPath, a leading global enterprise automation software company, aims to answer some of these questions as well as provides a repository of tech solutions deployed in the public and private sectors, in areas ranging from education, labour automation, food & agriculture, climate, energy, public sector digitalization, as well as key global trends for 2030 in AI & automation.

Supplementary questions answered in the report

Automation supports humans in better designing interactions for increased affordability and accessibility. Automation can have a great impact on creating better homes, better food, better energy, better healthcare, and education, areas that could have an important role in the medium and long term for achieving the SDGs.  Artificial intelligence solutions can balance electricity supply and demand in real time, while also optimizing energy use and storage to minimize rates. When considering a green-energy future, how would AI aid in sustainability?

Can AI act as an enabler on the SDGs targets and which are the vulnerabilities that can lead to negative impact? Is there a classification that will allow us to have an overview and identify solutions of the general areas of influence of AI in terms of its impact on the SDGs? There are countless examples of how breakthroughs in AI may help us understand climate change (SDG13), transition to sustainable transportation systems (SDG11), and accelerate agri-tech to help farmers end food poverty and malnutrition (SDG2), among many other benefits to the other SDGs. How can we cultivate solid policies and practices to guarantee AI is created positively and ethically so that individuals and governments may fully utilize it?

In preparation of the report launch; on June 30, the "Automation for Good" event focused on the role of automation in driving social impact and helping businesses and governments meet sustainability goals.
